I know of many communities out there.  There are so many communities out there that get overlooked.  No one ever looks at the little people.  In our English writing class at St. Johns University we have to do a paper on one of these communities.  This blog is about my possible topics.  I have chosen a possibility of three different topics.  While I really wanted to do the story about my uncle and his disability, I didn’t think that I would have enough time to research this topic.  I love my high school and I loved playing Volleyball during my high school years.  The feeling of setting foot onto that court is like none other for me.  My entire body shakes with anxioty and excitement.  I’ve grown up with Volleyball and eventually became one of the captains of the team.  I could never wait for practice or a game.  I wanted none other than to take out my anger and stress on the ball.  I wanted to spend everyday on the court.  Volleyball has become my passion and during my first year of college I’ve really missed it.  I’ve wanted so badly to hold a Volleyball in my hands again.  I grew up with this love and it is something I have never let go of.  My other main choice that I was thinking of was shopaholics.  My other passion in life has been shopping.  I have the ability to spend huge amounts of money in small periods of time.  This is a problem that many people have and to many different extents.  If we don’t cut these habits down, our lives will be doomed by debt.  So many people are in debt nowadays.  I’ve heard of people who are in debt by thousands, and even millions of dollars.  A debt like this kills their future and possible happiness.  They never have the luxury of owning a house, car, or anything that requires credit.  Here is my invention process of what I could do on these topics.

Invention Activities

  • Shop-a-holics
  • My uncle and handicapped (paralyzed) people.
  • Volleyball players

I can go to my school and interview people on the Volleyball team, the coach, or the gym teacher.  I was also a Volleyball player and a team captain and I know things on my own about the subject.

Shopaholics-I could interview people who work in stores and shopaholics themselves.  I could go to malls.

Handicapped people- I could interview handicapped people, my uncle, or doctors.

I could go to a hospital, people on campus who are teachers on handicapped people or go to my Uncle’s house to ask him questions.  I could also ask my father who works as a photographer for injured people.

Subjects related to these topics are other sports, people who work in stores, or people with other types of disabilities.

I really don’t know which to choose.  I feel as though I want to do it on disabilities but I don’t know if I can interview the people in time.  I do know however that I can interview Volleyball players and shopaholics.

I myself am a shopaholic so I understand the need to buy things.  I understand why it can make a person feel better and give them comfort.  I also know why people play sports.  Volleyball is a good workout as well as a good way to relieve stress.

I consider both of these to be intriguing because I am involved in both of them.

I think that both of these topics would be very easy for me to do and they would be interesting.

For the volleyball topic I will go to my high school and ask the people I know.  I will also interview the coach and reflect on my own opinions on the topic.

For shopaholics I would ask people that I know to be shopaholics.  I will ask both males and females to see how their answers may differ.  I can also reflect on my own opinions and knowledge.

Why do you play Volleyball?

What got you into the sport?

Do you miss it (if the person no longer plays it)

Would you continue to play it even if off the team?

Why do you shop?

How much do you spend?

What do you buy?

Where do you go?

I think that shopaholics are meaningful because they have a problem that will eventually get them into debt.

Volleyball is important because of the heart that is behind it.  A passion for a sport is always memorable to people who play sports.

How do the people in debt get to where they are today?

Or

Sports can change people’s lives and their hearts and give people something positive to invest their time in.

The television show Big Spender is a good view of what can happen to people who don’t cut the habit of spending.

for volleyball, I could use games that professionals play in like beach Volleyball with Misty May and Kerry Walsh.
